For 85 years, ETMA has been building a story of ingenuity, vision, and continuity.
A story that began with Mário Rodrigues da Costa – founder, a man of causes and ideas – and which today continues through new generations, keeping intact the will to always strive for better.
In Moments of a Story…, we revisited the most significant milestones, from the company’s first facilities to the 1990s.
We also recalled, with emotion and gratitude, the remarkable figure of Mário Rodrigues da Costa, whose dedication laid the foundations for what would become a benchmark in the metalworking sector.
Today, we continue that journey, bringing to light the most recent chapters: ETMA’s consolidation in the 21st century, its international reach, the evolution of its identity, and the beginning of a new business cycle, now in the hands of the family’s third generation.
Because there are stories that deserve to be told to the very end – and others, like this one, that gain fresh momentum with every chapter.
2003 – ETMA changes its legal status to a Public Limited Company
In October 2003, ETMA took another significant step in its journey, adopting its current status as a public limited company.
This milestone reflects not only a legal evolution but also the recognition of the solidity and maturity achieved over decades of dedication to the metalworking sector.
2012 – New logo and the assertion of the 10 Integrated Production Processes
In 2012, ETMA made a strategic leap by renewing its corporate image, incorporating into its logo the representation of the 10 Integrated Production Processes in the form of a cogwheel.
This exclusive system positions ETMA as a unique company in Europe, thanks to its ability to offer all production stages in-house, from prototype development to final assembly.
A refreshed visual identity, aligned with its vision for the future and operational excellence.
2015 – Celebrating 75 Years
ETMA marked its 75th anniversary with pride, paying tribute to the legacy of its founder, Mário Rodrigues da Costa, the employees from different generations, and the clients and partners who contributed to this success story.
With its sights set on the future, the company reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.
2020 – 80 years of history
In 2020, even in an atypical year marked by global challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, ETMA celebrated 80 years of activity with a series of internal and external communication initiatives.
An emotional journey through its most important milestones, which strengthened the sense of belonging among all those who are part of this journey.
2023 – Transition to the 3rd generation
At the end of 2023, and following the loss of the two leading figures of the family’s second generation, the baton was definitively passed to the third generation.
With a committed and cohesive team in place, ETMA reinforces the continuity of its corporate DNA: closeness, excellence, and a long-term vision.
A clear sign that the story continues to be written, with firm roots and branches reaching towards the future, is the fact that members of the fourth generation are already involved in different areas of the business.
2025 – The strength of a story that continues
Today, ETMA is a benchmark in the European metalworking sector, exporting to the most demanding markets and operating with an integrated production system that ensures flexibility, quality control, and reduced logistics costs.
A culture of innovation, continuous investment in technology, and valuing people remain the pillars sustaining ETMA’s growth.
A story that continues to be written with rigour, vision, and pride in its origins.
Where the past inspires, the present transforms, and the future challenges.
More than celebrating the journey, this reflection on our history invites us to acknowledge the legacy of those who brought us to where we are today.
With gratitude, we recall the pioneering spirit of Mário Rodrigues da Costa, his work ethic, and the human connection he nurtured with all those who were part of the company.
With respect, we honour the solidity built by the second generation, in particular, and with everlasting fondness, Mário Jardim and António Braga – respectively the founder’s son and son-in-law – who consolidated the foundations and paved the way for ETMA’s sustained growth.
A new chapter begins – a present written with rigour, innovation, and a strong awareness of our role in the industrial sector.
We count on a cohesive team, which includes members of the third and fourth generations of the founding family, with a spirit of continuity that connects us to the past and drives us towards the future.
Our commitment remains unwavering:
- to develop outstanding solutions for our clients,
- to continually innovate in our processes,
- to value the people who make ETMA what it is,
- and to keep alive the pride in a story built with integrity, vision, and hard work.
ETMA’s story does not end here.
Every day, in every part, in every project, it continues… with deep roots and an open horizon.
